
About Dr. Epperson

Dr. Randall C. Epperson has been providing neuropsychology and clinical psychology services to the medical and legal communities for the past 30 years. He is one of only 8 double board certified neuropsychologists (ABCN, ABPN) in California and one of only two in Central and Eastern California including the Central Valley.
He completed BA, MA and PhD degrees in clinical psychology (CA lic. no. PSY8723) with a neuropsychology emphasis. His internship and residency in neuropsychology met criteria of the International Neuropsychological Society and Division of Clinical Neuropsychology of the American Psychological Association, as well as the Houston Conference on neuropsychology training.
As an active duty US Army Captain in the Health Services Command he evaluated and treated large numbers of concussions and post-traumatic stress cases for 7 years. He taught in the neurology, psychiatry and psychology departments of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Kimbrough Hospital, and Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco. In his private practice he saw and treated patients in most of the hospitals in San Francisco. He is a sixth generation Californian from two 1849 Gold Rush families. He later was director of psychology and neuropsychology at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto and Modesto Rehabilitation Hospital. He has been in private practice in Modesto since 1987.
He has provided legal consultation and testified in Superior Courts in numerous counties including Sonoma, Marin, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Alameda, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Merced, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Santa Cruz and San Bernardino. He has testified in federal courts in San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, Chicago and courts martial.
His usual catchment area for patients is Sacramento to Bakersfield, with occasional cases outside the area and occasionally out of state. By arrangement he can travel to see patients in Sacramento, Fresno and Bakersfield in addition to his usual office practice in Modesto.
His most typical medical referrals involve head injury, stroke, dementia, ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, conversion hysteria, learning disabilities, ability to return to work, qualification for disability status and treatment planning.
Dr. Epperson has been a Qualified Medical Examiner for the California Workers Compensation system for 17 years (QME no. 909021), frequently called on as an Agreed Medical Examiner by both sides.
He works equally on plaintiff and defense legal cases. His most typical legal referrals involve head injury, chronic pain, mood disorders, disability determination, ability to return to work, post-traumatic stress, medical malpractice, malingering, stress/harassment/ADA accommodation, testamentary capacity, and toxic exposure/electrocution/anoxia. Dr. Epperson’s extensive background allows him to focus in detail on the specific needs of the referring party. He is not currently seeing criminal cases. He has run a pro bono head injury support group at a local hospital since 1987. Complete neuropsychological test battery is available in Spanish.
